Program History
Future Connections, which will celebrate its 13th year of successful operation next summer, focuses on supporting three core competencies: career development, skill development/academic learning, and personal development. The program is a partnership between University Circle Inc., area school districts, and 27 cultural organizations and Greater Cleveland businesses.

Program Overview
The mentor based program begins with a formal application and interview process involving representatives from University Circle cultural institutions and business host sites. A series of student workshops to help build life and personal development skills is a precursor to a four-week internship at a University Circle non-profit institution followed by a four week placement at a Greater Cleveland business. Students are engaged in learning activities for 25 hours per week over the course of the program. A stipend of $ 1,000 is provided to assist students with transportation, lunches, and any other expenses incurred related to program participation.

The program offers students extraordinary opportunities to participate in:
  • Laboratory, environmental and botanical research experiments
  • Video presentations and museum tours
  • Medical and surgical observations
  • Fire safety training
  • Information technology methodologies
  • Curriculum development
